Seven years ago, Lori Berry began teaching at an elementary school where the principal's last name was Barrie. To avoid confusion among the students, she decided to use the nickname "Ms. Math Berry". Although the principal left after one year, the nickname stuck - even now, seven years later, students at the school still know Ms. Berry as "Ms. Math Berry." Adopting a distinct moniker eliminated ambiguity between her and the former principal while allowing her to emphasize her passion for mathematics. The nickname has become an endearing part of her teacher identity within the school community.
